Social Behavioral Tests

Social behavioral tests in animal research are experimental paradigms designed to evaluate social interactions, communication, and social cognition in animals. These tests are critical for studying the neural, genetic, and environmental factors underlying social behavior, as well as for modeling human neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders characterized by social deficits, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, and social anxiety disorder. Social behavioral tests measure various aspects of social behavior, including social approach, social recognition, social memory, aggression, affiliation, and empathy.

GemPharmatech routinely conducts Three-Chamber Social Test to detect changes in mouse social behaviors.

1. Three-Chamber Social Test

This test assesses social preference and social novelty by allowing an animal to choose between spending time in a chamber with a novel conspecific, a chamber with a familiar conspecific, or an empty chamber. It is widely used to study social motivation and deficits in models of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
